Home
What does home mean to you?

When you hear the word “home”, what feelings or images does this word conjure up? My own answer to what home means has evolved throughout the years.
When I was younger, I thought of home as the house that I lived in with my immediate family members for 20+ years. Over the last 2 months we moved out of this house. Even though I was incredibly sad about the move, I realized something else that was a strong if not stronger connection to home. And that was family. Without family around, this old home felt more empty and lifeless. So home was also where my family was, even if it was in a new place.
Sometimes, I get a sense of home from a feeling I’ve associated with it. I can get the feeling of home when I look at a painting of a tattered looking house in Asia. It could also be seeing a nice tea spread with a bouquet of flowers that reminds me of a life I had in London. These images instill a feeling of comfort, ease, and familiarity in my body. And these feelings are also home.
Most recently, I’ve experienced home as being in alignment with my purpose. Yesterday, I finally admitted to myself the coaching clients I actually wanted to be serving the most. When I accepted this truth, some of my fears and resistance I had felt in my body dropped away. I felt that I was in flow again, that my energy wasn’t stuck anymore but moving the way it was meant to, and worries or doubts I carried even a day before evaporated. So home is also being in alignment.
How awesome is it that home can mean so many things! It could be a place or places, it could be where there is family, it could be certain feelings that are evoked, and it could also be a sense of being in alignment with purpose.
